 A future for Camp Horseshoe?

I thought others might enjoy this email thread between myself and ex-camper, Bobby Mitchell:

=========

You and I emailed back and forth quite a while ago regarding Camp
Horseshoe -( I see unfortunately not many messages on the Camp Board).
Is the land that was Camp completely taken up by other developments?
My reason for asking is that I have a friend and former camper who was
a director of another camp and is now looking to start his own and of
course if enough of the land was available that would be ideal.

Thanks again for your time.

Bobby,

I am afraid that there is not enough contiguous land available (at least based on my knowledge). My heart sank when I read your email, if only it were 5-10 years ago, the story would have been different. The entire lake ("Little Horseshoe") sold for $800,000 or so if I recall correctly (don't quote me). The land was for sale for so long too, I had always hoped I would have the chance to make an offer on it myself. I would have been a big supporter of a new camp on that lake, it was the way it was meant to be.

Perhaps you recall a small lake just West of the camp, called "Adventure Lake". It is small and I think the old camp had an arrangement with the sole owners (who have a cabin on the NE side of Adventure Lake) for use. I can't help but wonder if they would sell if they miss the camp as much as some of the others do. The lake is too small for much activity though.

There are of course other lakes in the area too.

The directors of Birch Trail, the camp for girls in the area, might be a good resource for info on potential options in the area, http://www.birchtrail.com/ .

I would love to be kept apprised of the project if possible, I hope your friend has some luck. I think the world of these types of camps, especially in today's world. If I come across a few million bucks I will be happy to buy the lake back and give full use of it to your friend and his camp. Either way I will keep my feelers out and my thinking cap on.

With your permission I would love to post this on the message board (including your email above), there are many who would love to know that someone was interested in re-opening a camp on Little Horseshoe. Who knows, maybe it will help generate a solution. People have been shy to post.

Please feel free to contact me for any reason,

Brent Burval

Brent - I thought that was the case, but I was holding out a little bit
of hope that it never went through. You can post my message if you'd
like. I'll forward your message to my friend. I definitely remember
"A" Lake as it was fondly called by us Horseshoe folks. I agree it is
too small.

Thanks for your response and I'll keep you posted.

Bobby
