Summer of 2005 at the new Shoe

I don't know if anybody looks at this any more, but I thought I would post anyway. I just spent two days at Camp Horseshoe, it was awesome. The spirit and enthusiam was contagious. I could never have imagined staring at almost 200 kids standing at attention at the flag as Bill Engel was blowing the trumpet. I spent two W and W filled nights with Big H at the new Eye "Judy's". H is looking great at almost 80 years old. next year I plan on spending a week working at Camp and hopefully longer in the future. Jordan and Fran are doing a tremendous job and I continue to wish them great success. Hail to the forest and cheers to my fellow FUN boys of 1985. GuGu

Hi Danny,

Some of us check in from time to time. My son David is in 13 this year (2nd session). We flew into Midway and drove up camp to drop him off. THe place is absolutely fabulious! No doubt, Jordan and Fran have got it goin' on! DJ (as David is know at camp) is having another great year there. In addition, Charlene (my wife) and I spent a little time on campus during visiting weekend. I envy those that are able to spend time there.

We met some great "new" families while there along with a couple of familiar faces. Green Blue started today, so they're in the home stretch. As always it ends way too soon.

My hat is off to Fran and Jordan. To go from "0" to maximum capacity in 2 years is awsome!

My regards, Danny. Hope all is well with you and yours.

Hail to the Forest!

Roy

This summer as for the past 36 summers my wife Mary and I spent a glorious 3-4 days with our son Tim, his wife Amy our first grandchild Lola at Little Horseshoe, floating on the lake, swimming, chilling, listening to the frogs - just hanging out. We then drove over to New Horseshoe to visit our daughter JoJo who for the second year is working as a tripping counselor, on the water front and at the climbing wall - having a ball and in the true Horseshoe spirit- it's in her blood. She will be married next year Memorial Day to a horseshoe counselor - Lee Cush - who hails from Australia - unbelieveable. They were co - counselors this summer and shared lifetime experiences together - Council Horseshoes, all night treasure hunts, competition, water boiling etc.
As indicated above, Fran and Jordan did an amazing job - from 0 to 196 campers in 1 year - congratulations to the both of them and to the staff who are full of spirit , fun and good old values.
Hail to the Forest.

Yes, I too check this site periodically, as well as the "official" www.camphoreshoe.com; expecially when I hear the loon call in my mind.

Danny, it was great to spend some time with you this summer. Wish all you guys could have been at Awards Night when Big "H" was surprised by being honored with a special letterman jacket for his 25 years of services to Camp Horseshoe. Also, the Yearbook was aptly dedicated to him. I am sure we can post the tribute on the message-board of the camp website.

Roy, you know indeed first-hand how great The Shoe is for our sons (as do I! Simon was one of the nearly ninety Foresters!). It is a delight to welcome DJ into the "Sun" family of which I have the honor of being Cheiftain; his name will go up on our "family" plaque in Council Horseshoe.

Rick, thanks for your help with the All-Nighter. You were one of the best clues in my memory of hunts.

A truly remarkable summer. Great things in store as we continue to grow. Incidentally, I now have a proper bugle (US Army issue) and sound a little but better every day. Next summer...

In the Shoe,

Bill

Congratulations are due for Jordan, Fran and Camp Horsehoe. It is an amazing feat for a camp to go from 0 to 196 campers in two summers today with all the established "competition" out there. The camping market is certainly big enough for all, obviously. Best of luck in the future.

Danny:

I don't know if you remember me, but I used to camp with you at Horseshoe. I am amazed to find this sight and to recognize many names of people I used to spend 8 weeks with every year. I hope that you still check this, because I would love to see how you are and find out whom you are still in touch with.

Respectfully,

Donald "Don" Anoff
