 one in the JJ plus...

I think is was my woodsmen year that someone left the biggest dump in the JJ. No one flushed it or a week so that everyone else could see it. It was the size of a muskie. Does anyone remember who did that?

I was fortunate to have some of the best counselor Abel de La Rosa and Ken Simon as counselors(Guide year) Steve Byrd(Pioneer), John Denies (woodsman), and H(Thirteen). Any other nominations....

Trips..
I remember doing the 1 day survival and none of us were having a good time so we started to wander to each others sites. We ended up getting lost and Michael Schwartz and to find us and then find all of our stuff.

Did anyone else have the pleasure of going on a Ranger trip with Larry Remilard? What a blast....

There are so many trips that we took that I could go on forever. The one that comes to mind was a canoe trip (maybe the marathon) when it rained for the whole day. We were all soaked to the core and so was all the fire wood. We had to whittle the wood till we go to the dry spot just to get the fire going.

Teddy Bloom as a pioneer
Scott Morrison as a woodsman

Both fantastic counselors.

THEN John Beatrice as a forester. I think Merc felt so bad about that, he gave me H as a guide.

Paul Moen as a ranger. Also a great guy.

13 year was a fun year despite one counselor hating us and the other trying to kill us.....

I remember that dump vividly. The thing had to be taken apart to flush. No one ever fessed up to it. But, if I recall, the suspects were (and in no particular order): Brad Plough, Loren Anderson?, and Tom (the huge handy man) Brokaw? (not the anchor)
I've noticed Brad has a few postings, maybe he can shed some light on this

John Wolk put on a pair of surgical gloves and picked it up---really. He had someone take a picture of him holding it. I couldn't believe the size of it, but more importantly, I couldn't believe that Wolk actually touched it.

I believe it was actually Wolk who took the picture and Kappy who picked it up (hence: Yeah, rah, rah, Kappy, was it cold?) holding it with a garbage bag. Wolk may still have the picture.

Wolk also has a great story about getting splashed.

I remember this, not vividly, but I recall seeing it, but I don't know who it belonged to. I do remember John Wolk offering anyone fifty dollars to pick it up so he could take a picture of it. The way John was carrying on you'd think it was a trophy fish. Maybe he should have had it stuffed and mounted, a little caption underneath reading, "The Big One". How much did he pay you Tom?

Are you related to Billy Plough, a Memphis boy who was at camp in the early 60's maybe?? He used to give out Coppertone to all the counselors who had lifeguard duty (Plough, Incorporated product, of course).

Dan- Larry Remilard was a character. I was fortunate enough to go on two Ranger cruises with him, and I faintly recall expressing himself when we would prepare to jibe, ready to jibe, JIBE HO!! by uttering in a deep voice.... "Monkey Balls" or something along those lines. He was the sailing king of the Apostle Islands. I don't think I ever saw his eyes behind those risky business, 1980's Raybans of his. Perhaps he was hiding his intoxicated state?
All the best.....Josh

As far as I know we're no relation, but I'd have to check with my sister who is the family tree nut. From what I've been told the Plough incorperated folks are distant reletives so anything is possible. This may be a lead she can follow for another branch, thanks for the info.

Too bad if you're not related. You'd probably be rich from Coppertone, St. Joseph aspirin, etc., etc.

josh,
were you on the Ranger the year that captain Larry told Adam Raffel that it was ok to go to the bathroom over the bow? I'm not talking "pee to the lee" (which is what we all did whenever we had to relieve ourselves). Poor Adam had to do more than take a leak. He propped himself up over the silver rails and dropped trow. Larry then decided it would be funny to turn the boat into the oncoming waves. Needless to say, Adam almost fell overboard and both he and the side of the poweder blue Ranger were stained brown. Larry laughed, but Adam cried. It was one of the funniest things I have ever seen.

Brian-
I think I was on that cruise. The rule of peeing (or taking a number 2) on the leeward side is a law of the lakes that needs to be followed.....ALWAYS!!! Funny that I haven't sailed since that cruise, but if I had to sail one of those bath-tubs we called sailboats and used to sail around Little Horseshoe in, I think I could pull it off.
Regards....Josh

Hey Brad,
Wolk paid me $50.00, a twelve pack of Coke, and a box of pop Tarts, but only after I threatened him with bodily harm. TK.

I went on my first "get lost" with Ken Simon. Ken, as I recall was an Eagle Scout and more than handy with a compass. We crossed a road which I knew to be the road to that led to camp but NOOOOO, Ken's compass said otherwise. After a futile 45 minutes he conceeded I might have been right (not bad for a lowly Ranger) and we backtraked. Moral? Ken was a much better counselor than navigator. i swore I'd never go on another get lost...I was wrong. JP
