Okay, that didn't work...

A lot of you have responded that you like the photos I've posted. It's difficult to post them on here, and they're not easy to access. So, I've created a group at MSN which is open to anyone who wants to see the pics I have or post any others.

I've only scanned a few of the many that I have and I'm sure that there's tons more around somewhere... it would be great if anyone interested would add to the collection.

The group can be accessed at:

http://groups.msn.com/CampHorseshoeMinongWI54859

Hope you all enjoy.

Jeff

I notice a preponderance of Marilyn pictures...Anything we ought to know about?

GREAT pictures! Thanks. John

You'd have to ask Marilyn about that.

Actually, on second thought... maybe you should ask my brother Matt about that.

Jeff,

I think that you were my counselor on the second half of the Marathon. It was my second trip, and it was a great time. The first half was led by Luke Fenton, and he starved us for several days. The second half (below Hayward flowage) we feasted. Let me know.

As mentioned earlier your intent and effort has been stellar. Hopefully others will accept your offer to submit picts. As meaningful as younger faces are the images etched in all of our hearts are priceless. The steps up to the dining hall, flag ceremony, the A field first coming into view, Crook/the swimming beach, the buddy board, Council Horseshoe, a panorama of the waterfront looking past the flagpole to those white steps. How hard might it be to build a batch list to include all who have submitted to the phorum site? Thus in a couple of keystrokes it might be possible to communicate to all who have expressed their thoughts and interest?

Actually, it's not difficult at all... if interested alumni have a MSN .Net Passport, they can join the group, thus registering their name and email address. The member listing is only available to those who are members of the group. I have just updated the group settings to require my authorization prior to granting membership. This way the member listing is more secure.

Members can then be contacted with any upcomming gatherings, events or other issues. If you don't have a Passport, you can sign up for one at the site.

I would certainly welcome any others who would share in the administration of the group. Just send me a note if you're interested.

While I certainly appreciate all that horseshoelakes.org has done in allowing us to post on this site, the MSN Groups are much more suited for what's happening with this forum. I encourage you all to take a look and to participate. Especially in the sharing of pictures.

If you don't have a scanner, you can send me your pictures and I'll scan them for you.

I've told many people throughout my life that my experience at Horseshoe is central to my very being. Not a day goes by that I don't use a lesson or two aquired at camp. So, spending a little time doing this is my pleasure.

Jeff,

I was at Horseshoe for only 4 years (Pioneer - Guide) between 1978-1981, but I was a bit shocked when I started looking through the pictures labeled "Black & White" on the other site and found my Pioneer C cabin (Andy Karp, Jon Missner, Lee Nortenberg, Larry Gilbert and me). Our counselor was Bob Simon who is also pictued. He slashed his hand on a sink in the JJ that year so we had Bob Thompson for three painful weeks.

I was even more shocked to look at the next picture in the sequence and see myself.

My wife is having a good laugh. Thanks for the memories. Looking at Ephraim in that all-camp picture was also a delight. Greg

Greg,

Thanks for your comments. It would be great if you'd join the MSN group and update the description of that picture with the appropriate names.

Also... wait until you see even funnier Ephraim pics!!! Both Eric and Elliott were a riot and I captured a number of good moments.

Jeff,
I'm a little afraid to see what else you've got. It might ruin my political aspirations (just kidding). Great pictures. That 1978 all camp photo was the first of about 4 straight years of me being in the front row. I'll let Eliot know that he is about to be exposed in a Horseshoe pictorial. I hope its a shot of him solving the Rubics Cube for valuable canteen and prizes (there were a lot that summer).

I'm glad to hear things are going well for you. To this day, I can't look at Jeep Cherokee without thinking about how we should be making a Hardee's run. Keep posting those great pictures.

I don't mean to sound like such an old fart, but I was struck by 2 pictures in particular on the MSN site. First, when I was a teenager I always thought that "H" had a big gut. Now that I'm 43, I think he looks damn good! Second, it's only a little weird seeing a 1979 Carnival picture of Steve Mutchnik and knowing that a year and a half ago he was giving me a vasectomy!!!

Also, I'm the good looking sonofagun in the back left of the 1978 all camp picture, with Kittle in front on my right and Gary Meyers on my left.

Leave it to Big Mo to take us to a new level of sharing by giving us much more information that needed... you haven't changed a bit! (except maybe for the small adjustment to your vas deferens).

I think Stevie Mutch must've perfected his technique at the fly tying shop. So far, so good.

dear bob:

i remember being homesick the first night of camp in 1978 and you sitting there by me, as i was puking my guts up.pure altruism on your part. i just wanted you to know that i still remember.

i saw joey lansing this a.m. and brad emanuel works,ex-camper (he's a bunch younger than i) in the same building that i do.

at 35, i'm fat, bald, grey, 2 herniated disks, reconstructed shoulder, ect but still (like you probably) incredibly bril;liant, handsome, athletic and humble.

regards, tony fox
