 Cabin 14 Pranks

I found this site quite by accident doing a search on Camp Horseshoe, what a pleasant surprise. Many good memories and nice people.

I was in Cabin 14 during the summer of 1969. We finally came up with a doozy of a story involving the astronauts who went to the moon that summer. We went around to every cabin on the Senior side and told them something like this,"The mission had a big problem with equipment, the astronauts were in danger of dying and told everyone to go to Gordy's cabin for information on the mission". Can you imagine about 90 campers, in bathrobes milling around Gordy's cabin just waiting! They probably would have waited all night. Our fatal flaw was a Yea Rah Rah after an hour that backfired all of us into our cabin and 90 pissed off campers stormed the cabin throwing rocks, sand and water.

That was a fun summer.

Yikes! Steve London! Let's see, the last time we spoke was, oh, 27 years ago. I remember the prank like it was yesterday. You fail to mention that among the rocks, sand and water was a styrofoam cooler full of urine. Apparently that exceeded what the Bear thought appropriate and he came down on them like, well...Gordy. Great prank. I also rember the @!#$-eating grin that came over Gordy's face when we proposed it. You'll note that many of our 14'er asssociates from that year went on to greater glory as Studes the next year. JP

I took the next year off and missed the fun. I want you to know the burden that act placed on me. The next year I was the only Super Stude, living with Frankie, who was constantly telling me to turn my radio down and running me from morning to night. I really missed the company. If you all would have been their my experience would have been different.

Steve

If memory serves me you're from Milwaukee. Is Leonard Hack still in Sing Sing or was he released on good behavior?

I think Leonard Hack must have been stalked for years by Bill "Buddha" Hovey for losing a huge walleye Buddah had caught, by not bringing it in on the stringer before hitting some of the rapids on the St. Croix right before the Copper Dam, as I recall. Alas, Buddha died "badly" a number of years ago of cancer. I got a chance to see him at his home after he'd deteriorated a lot.

I was in Guide A in 1969 with "The Big H", Harry Pendergrast as counselor. It was the rookie year for both of us. I remember that night like it was yesterday! I especially remember all of the mosquito bites we all got that night!

I am so glad to have been turned on to this site by my brother (and 7 year Camp Horseshoe veteran) Jeff Speer.

thanks for the memories,
Neil
