Challenge to attract alumni to this site.

Randy Held checking in. I was a camper for 7 years (1969 - Pioneer C through 1975 - Cabin 14) and a counselor for 1 year (1978 - Woodsman B)

I want to issue a challenge to all who frequent this site to pass it on to at least 3 alumni who have yet to visit and/or contribute.

I have passed the information to Glenn Adilman (Glenn.m.adilman@abc.com), Peter Sperling (pes@fpkc.com) and Bruce Levy (blevy@rfminc.com). Glenn lives in LA and has promised to contact his brothers Brian and David; Peter lives in New Orleans and has agreed to contact his brother Andrew and Lenny Davis; Bruce lives in Houston has agreed to contact brothers Hoffer - Scott and Bruce.

I was in Birmingham two weeks ago and learned about this site from Jimmy Weil. Thanks Jimmy, it's been a lot of fun reading the forum. Not only have the memories been brought back to life but I have already re-connected with some old friends - Mark Schwartz gave me Glenn Adilman's contact information and we will be getting together soon here is sunny LA.

But Jimmy I'm a little disappointed in you my man. You told me about this great site but I can't find any evidence that you have contributed!!!! Remember the first rule about camping - always leave the campsite in better condition than you found it!!! You could leave this site better off by recalling some memories and letting us know a little about your life since camp.

Seriously though, reading through this forum has been great fun. It's inspired me to dust off my old picture albums; I wonder if my Golden Horseshoe initiation classmates (Jimmy Weil, Jay Berlin, Mitch Wittenberg & Pirate Jim) remember the 'lean-to' we built next to the Athletic field trail.

Something I will never forget about that initiation. One of the requirements was to catch and eat a legal size fish. I caught my 'permanent' four years prior and had not fished much in the interim years so I was worried about this task. Being no fool I tagged along with Mitch Wittenberg the first morning. About five minutes after we started casting Mitch pointed out a largemouth bass that was swimming near my feet. I maneuvered my lure (a large red & white daredevil), hooked the fish in the gill, cleaned it, ate it for breadfast and - voila - had met this requirement. Mitch, who was the best fisherman during my years at camp (and possibly in the entire history of Camp Horseshoe) went into an unlikely 'slump' and, if memory serves me correctly, did not catch a fish until the next to last day of intiation. Thanks for the help Mitch.

For those of you interested in what's going on with me..........I've been married for 13 years and lived in LA since 1991. Our first child, Jolie, was born 09/07/2002. You can see her at the msn site that Jeff Kane set up - http://groups.msn.com/camphorseshoeminongwi54859. I work as a financial systems leader at Homestore.com.

I hope this finds everybody doing well. I'd love to hear from more old friends

Best wishes to all.

Randy Held

Well well well. If it isn't Pig Held, Cabin 14 1975, B.I.C. Good to see you on the site. I heard about it last summer, when it was definitely getting more play. Perhaps all of the old Horseshoers go into hibernation in the winter...they'll resume hitting the site when the last of the snow melts and thoughts turn to summer. Life is great here in Highland Park, IL . I never figured you for an LA guy. I remember when you lived here in Chicago! Good to see J Weil's name on the site. I emailed him...you should go easy on some of the southern boys...you know they're a little slow....If you see Lenny, or hear from him I'd love to get in touch. Through the site I heard from K Lib, Mallace, Jordy and some who escape my fading memory at this time. All the best to you and all of my other 1975 Cabin 14 buds.

Big Mo

2 T-pops and a sucker to anyone who can name the name of the #2 trip counselor on your Canadian? Y'know, the one where NONE of you caught a fish in 14 days.Nice to see you've all grown up in spite of the experience. JP

Of course, John Pritzker was the Number 1 counselor with a "fake out" assist from Charlie Robbins.

Not bad for a guy your age. Actually the lead guy was from St. Louis and I think his name was Berman. All I recall was that he was pretty serious and his family made funereal clothing. I was number two (you think Merc and Donnie would have trusted me to lead you morons?). Charlie Robbins came into the picture because we pulled a fake out on you on the way up and he picked us up in the bus at Goose Lake to return home. I was so fried from being with you guys for 2 weeks that when he rolled in I made him take me to a bar for a few beers before we retuened back to camp.

All my Brother Dan recalls og the trip is that the first place we paddled to after putting in was Sandwich Island. He believes we should have immediately turned around and went home. Hope you guys are well. JP

As Randy Held, Dave Adilman and an uncharged Scott Hoffer can attest, the Trip Counselor's name was Mike B-I-E-R-M-A-N. The counselor switcheroo took place in the parking lot of the Target in Duluth, as I recall, after seeing JAP following our bus closely.

The Canadian itself, beset by lack of fishing success, occasional heavy rain and lack of interpersonal cohesiveness among all attendees made a neg cheer at a Camp Swim Meet seem like the loudest 15 rahs you've ever heard.

Oh well, they can't all be keepers.

John--It was your seriousness and attention to detail that led Merc and me to select you to "lead" that Canadian. You never let us down! Take care.

Sorry, Randy, but we'll have to revoke your Golden Horseshoe membership retroactively. Donnie Cohen

I did land, clean and eat that tasty 12" bass so I think my membership should be secure. However, based on the quality of your contributions to the phorum and the clarity of your memories I'll nominate you for the class of 2004. Are you ready for a summer of initiation? I think a few days of eating what you catch and sleeping under a lean-to that you build should be ample requirements.

Hope all is well. Give Danny my regards.

Consider yourself "annointed" with some of Frankie's scalp grease.
