 WINNING 20 Mule Team!
Author: catman

Ok all you Grubbies!

Here's your chance to win a back rub at Friday's council horseshoe from Pioneer B, so listen up! Name all the members of the 20 mule team in the picture. As a bonus name the year and receive a free chance at a prize at "Shaft Alley" during carnival.

Now go get 'um Grubbies!

Hail to the Forest!

Roy

I can't name them all but I certainly recognize a few.

Back row (left to right):
?, Mike Goldstein, Andy Shapin, (Steve?) Harris, Steve Byrd, Bob Moss, Dinns.

Front row:
Kittle, ?,?,?, (David Spak?)
(After naming, Kittle, though, I should have stopped. He's the man! He collected all the UPC symbols from our pop-tart and cereal boxes when we were 14ers so he and Juanita could get free stuff.)

Alright Roy, prepare to pay up.

Front row (left to right): John "Kittle" Kittleson, Mitch Wittenberg (not my most gracious pose), Bob (currently known as "Rob") Harris, Keith "K Lib" Liberman, David Adelman.

Back row (left to right): Jimmy Weil, Mike "Goldie" Goldstein, Marc "Coho" Cohodes, Roy Hiller, Steve Byrd, Robert "Big Mo" Moss, John Dinnies

Seem to recall the photographer was Bob Thomsen.

I'll have to beg out on correctly determining the year in question, but it is probably 1978 or 1979.

Best,

Mitch

Mitch Wittenberg's (hi, Mitch) names are correct, but it is definitely NOT 1979. Gary Meyers just called me to ask who was next to K. Lib (my old cabin 14 buddy Adelman) but I had to check for myself before calling him back. Oh, to be young again....

To further refine the date, Weil, Cohodes and Wittenberg would have all been SuperStudes in 1978, so if they were all there that year, 1978 would be possible. Otherwise, it had to be 1980.

Big Mo,

Howdy! Right you are...I would have been a Super Stude in 1978 and I passed on this year at camp. So, we can rule that year out. If it isn't 1979 then 1980 would probably be more accurate. I have a hard enough time remembering what I did last week, let alone 23 years ago.

Hope all is well. Say hello to Marc and Randy for me when you get the chance.

Best,

Mitch

Well Mitch, I guess you and I will have to share that back-rub at Council Horseshoe, although in this day and age I think paying a young boy a nickel to rub you for 45 minutes would cause problems on so many levels. I have run into your folks out here in Highland Park a few times (yes, city boy flees to suburbia); Randy is in Chicago and Marc is just north of San Francisco. I'll pass along your regards.
Thanks for filling in the missing piece of the Hiller 20 mule team photo puzzle. I wasn't there in '79, but was a counselor in 78 & 80, so I knew it had to be one or the other.
All the best to you and Teddy (&Penny).
Big Mo

Congrats to Big Mo and Mitch!

I knew no Grubbie of the time would dare to remember since I believe we won the game that year. Yes you are correct on the names and the year. I hope the others in the picture have a chance to view it as well.

By the way, who the heck is Andy Shapin??

Best regards to all,

Roy

P.S. To all of you, L'Shana Tova! Happy New Year!

Hail to the Forest!

P.S.S. More pictures are to come.

Roy,

Thanks for posting the picture and for helping provide a brief diversion today from more stressful work-related matters. Keep the pictures coming.

Best,

Mitch
