Congratulations to my Son-In-Law, Kekoa Fox, for catching one of the nicest smallmouths I've seen in quite a while. And where do you think he caught it?
Horseshoe Lake! We have the pictures to prove it! The fish was actually caught in the summer of 2002. Naturally as all of us fisherman know, these rare happenings only occur when the odds are against us.
Kekoa had taken our Grandson Bradley out for a liesurely fishing trip, forgetting that a net might come in handy. None the less, he still managed to land the fish, an honest 4 lbs.

The next question of course is where did this fish come from? Since smallmouth aren't native to Horseshoe I can only assume that someone thought it would be interesting to drop a fish into the lake which was caught somewhere else. If that is in fact the case, I think we all, as people who love the lake should consider and realize that over many years nature has done a pretty good job of taking care of Horseshoe Lake. Maybe we should just leave it that way. Even the stocking of walleye in the 80's might be questioned. If a fish can't reproduce in a land locked lake, should it ever be introduced? Sure, we've caught some nice walleye, (the biggest got away over the years) but maybe it's best to let mother nature take care of things. If we do, our children just might be able to enjoy the same wonderful experiences we have over the years.

Steve, (54 straight years of enjoying Horseshoe Lake)

Remember, "Catch and Release". I've been fortunate to land three bass over 6 pounds in recent years, all released. Let's all do our part.
