Check this out.
I was trolling around Redmers and deerpath,It was around lunch time.Looking at the woods between both cabins and saw a black mass at the waters front.Geting closer I realized it was a bear.My drenalin was running wild with exitment. It"s been a very long time since I"ve seen a bear up there.Grampa saw him the next day after Me and Mom left.Oh ya,It was the only time I forgot my darn camera!!!!!!

Also ther was in the same spot,A mother and her fone drinking from the same spot. The spot was directly in the middle of both cabins that I explained.

I had a great time.
Mark

It's so bizarre to find this site and read about all the people and places I know so well.

Mark- you must be at least as old as me (47) to remember when Redmers was called Redmers. I was friends with the Bruders who bought it from the Redmers, but we still called it by its old name most of the time.

I spent so much time with Blanche and Oren Olsen, at the Sleepy Eye, I went to town dances with lake friends, and watched as Wright's was turned into Dun Roamin'.

Thanks for the memories. ;-)

Leanne,

Nice to see your response to my nephew Mark's post. Even nicer to hear one more person who loves all the Horseshoe memories. I've been going to Horseshoe since I was 2 years old and am now 57. My parents Joe and Evelyn built their cottage around 1956. It's the only building located between the two points in the center of the lake, (we're directly accross from "Redmer's" Yes, we all still call it that. Mr. Redmer used to attend our church back in Des Plaines, IL so while our family stayed at Olsen's Resort from 1948 through 56 we used to visit them occasionally. Most everyone in our family considers the lake a special place. My son Brent in fact cares for it enough to have built this web-site.

This year age has caught up with my parents and it will be the first year they'll miss the beautiful fall colors. At 91 and 87 they still live in their first and only home in Park Ridge, IL. and are quite self suffiecient. It looks like this will be a milestone year for me also as I've been unable to make it up due to some troublesome back problems. Hard to break the streak.

Lots of stories, experiences and lots of fun. There's no place quite like it.

Wondering if you still get up there? For now.

Steve

Hi Steve and thanks for your reply. I'm still getting used to the idea that people from the lake are here... :-)

My family's cabin was the first one past the boat ramp- Whippoorwhill Hill. It was a nice varnished pine cabin with white stairs down to the lake (at least it was until my Aunt and Uncle retired there in the 80s and changed it).

I haven't been to the lake for more than 15 years after having spent every summer of my life there from 1956 until 1975 and then as often as possible until 1985.

I've wished many times that I could give my son the sorts of summers that I had there- but I guess you can't go home again, eh?

Hey Heather,

I saw the topic Bear and lost my breath. I remember walking back to Dun Roamin from your grandparents place in the dark. I heard somthing walking with me in the woods and knew in my heart (which was beating hard enough to hurt) that I was being stalked, and soon to be mauled, by a bear. It turned out to be a large dog whose name Ive since forgotten. My aunt Diane and cousin Sue still like to tease me about "the bear that stalked me". Hope to see you and your family at Horseshoe again soon.
Hi Chris.

Chris- is your Aunt Diane by any chance Diane Bosman? Please don't tell me your Dad is Randy...(that would make me feel very old).

Hey Chris (You Spoonhead!)
I do remember that dog. I used to think it was a wolf. It was a husky, if I remember correctly. That think used to scare the %$&*# out of us!

It's been good talking to you over the past year. It would be awesome if you could get up there with your family :) I'll let you know next time we head up there. Last summer was only the second one I've missed in my 30 years.

Talk to you soon

Your friend forever,
Heather
