Horseshoe History Quiz Question 2002:

Did you know that in the early 50's Horseshoe Lake was once distinguished by producing the state record largemouth bass? The question is threefold:

What was the weight?

Who caught it?

And where is it now?

Enjoy the great outdoors!

Haha - My guess is it's hanging in The Sleepy Eye, but I cant remember the weight or who caught it. Guess I'll have to go over there to look again!

Brett,
It's been an awfully long time since your post. I'm sorry to say that after all the time you've waited your answer is incorrect. The answer is:

Caught by Mr. Redmer who was then the owner of the beautiful log cabin home at the east shore of the main lake.

Weight???? 8 lb. 6 oz. Whew, can any of us match that? Two 6 lb. on my list but that's not close.

Current location of mount? The Long Branch. For years it was displayed right behind the bar when you first entered the building. My sister informed me that it is now located in the back room. What a shame.

What did Mr. Redmer receive as a reward for his catch? A brand new Nash Rambler!

My father has told me all through the years that he saw the fish, which Mr. Redmer was keeping alive in a burlap sack tied to the pier.

Steve
