You've got the cast for that trip correct.
Now, let's go on e-bay and buy a used vehicle. My memory fails me here, but to recreate that journey we need either:
a. A blue VW Combi van
b. The brown Dodge Buckboard
c. A green ford pickup truck

The nasty school buses from the 60's could not make it to Michigan.
I know on my first porkies trip in '83 we took the VW. In either '84 or '85 (both porkies those years were bear-hungry disasters) it was the buckboard, because the counselor had to learn stick shift the night before to drive it there.

I also remember going on the Ranger in '82 and sleeping in the Ford.
