Week 8 Sunday:
If you don't know today's activities block, leave this website immediately. You have no business calling yourself a grubby.
This morning, its an all camp track meet. Of course there is always that one kid who decides to wear his jeans up to the A field on an 85 degree day and has to run the 880 in his underwear. Nothing like the thud of the shot put taking a "horseshoe bounce." Don't forget to exit out of the back of the circle.
This afternoon there are 75 big points at steak. Its the super duper relay. We will definately want to do our mess hall cheer at lunch (There will be a meeting, of the always on top, never say die _______ team, on that side of the mess hall). And during that meeting, when you pass me the flag, I am standing up. There are always new memories created from the glory events: Pancake eating, tent pitching, water boil, rock diving, running from the Wildlife Lodge to the A field (well it seemed important when I was a Woodsman) and RING THAT HORN (Look out Jay Filderman).
Tonight its the show that has been thought of all year, practiced for a week, performed in 20 minutes and yields 2.7 points. Somehow, I still have great memories of Song and Cheer. I can remember almost all the songs, trying to make "H" cry (not by taking away his Swisher Sweets), the skits bordering on "neg," and team captains with the words "smile" and "louder" writtin on their stomachs in magic marker. But the best part of Song and Cheer was the impromptu concert performed by The 20 Mule team while the judges made their decision. Armed with a Camp Horseshoe song book, there was nothing like a new interpretation of "When its hog calling time in Nebraska."
Winning team to the flagpole. Everyone get a good night of sleep tonight. The rec hall is off limits and Frankie says the "lid is on." I don't know about you, but I pretty much tried to stay awake from this point until the bus left on Friday morning.
I need some pep.... (pep song on 3, bingo bango bongo)
