Week 8 Wednesday:

Today starts with the most difficult couple of hours for the Masters of the "big hunt." The struggle to tabulate the winner and to stay awake and announce who gets the 35 points at flag formation after having virtually no sleep over 2 days is a big challenge.

The morning is a blur as most of the Rangers sleep in (sack time).

At lunch, it is the last time to eat with your competition tables, the last mess hall cheer, and the last chance to look up longingly at the Green-Brown scoreboard over the big window.

The afternoon activity block includes Woodsman softball on the little diamond and Pioneer circle dodgeball. Also on the A field, the bar-b-que pit is getting fired up in preparation for the big event. They better have a good wood pile for this one.

After activities, its juice call, soap drill, general swim (sans suits in the old days) and then flag formation. Then the teams make the long single file trek up to the A field, a smatter of cheering along the way, and take their positions on opposite sidelines of the football field. Now the show begins. The big final squeak. Camp Horseshoe's version of a summer stock morality play in which the winner is teamwork and all are rewarded with bar-b-que beef sandwichs on white bread with corn on the cob and watermellon (hey, your watermellon smells funny). The final "sittin' on an ashcan" is cheered and no one can remember who won or lost by the time half the pioneers are covered in sauce.

Then its time to gather around the fire as the 14ers and all-night masters sit on the back of Loose LuLu and regale the rest of camp with their logs (you know what I mean). After the SFD's are tallied and all the clues have been detailed, there is one more tradition left to be exercised. Its on to the JJ and HOH for a Full House and Royal Flush. Human digestion was never so honored.
