Hello All,
A few more obscure Horseshoe references some of you might recall:
1. "Pelvic Thrusts"--Mark Kalishman (Song & Cheer Night--1970?)
2. "Blind Newcomb"--remember the wall set up in front of Cabins 13 and 14?
3. Packages for "Ralph Yatzick", "Irving H. Bobolowitz", and "Guido DeGuiseppe"
4. "You can't tell me what to do...I paid my 'thou'"--a grubby's battle cry against an over-controlling counselor back when 8 weeks cost $1000
5. Father John's Beans
6. "Let's see your big Sunday smile"--C.C. Burns
7. "Plunker"
8. Having a Coke party
9. Coke Call (and those little 8 oz. glass bottles with the names of the cities on the bottom)
10. Ping Pong and Shuffleboard in the Rec Hall
11. "Rainy Day Activities" in the Wildlife Lodge
12. "Mosquito Patrol"
13. "Tackle Canteen"
14. "Sand Steak"
15. "Campcraft & Wildlife" (and those elaborate reflector ovens that never generated any heat)
16. Fishing in "Quadrants I, II, III, and IV"
17. The "Fisherman's Luck" Board
18. Tse-Tse Fly Bites, Noogies, and Undie-Grundies
19. "Counselor's Ice Box"--thanks Frankie D!
20. Counselor "Road Parties"
21. "Hamburger Nights"
22. Wearing your "Sunday Whites" and having Baked Chicken for Sunday lunch
23. Here's a real strange one: needing to brush your teeth with baking soda and salt during Super Inspection (a little sadistic torture cooked up by Gordy back in the old days)
23. "Wilderness Point"
24. Frankie Huss on his tractor
25. Getting your "Temporary Fishing License"--Always look behind you before you cast, never keep a fish unless you intend to clean it, never leave your rod & reel in the sand, never carry an exposed hook.....
26. Tying "Bluegill Specials" in the Fly Tying Shop
27. Solving the codes in the "Horseshoe Counsel" and winning a trout for breakfast (yum....cooked in lard) or getting to throw Gordy or Merc in the lake during Carnival (yea, right).
28. "Camp Horseshoe....Attention! Hats off...To the colors!"
29. Winning the flag
30. "Buddy Checks"
31. Bud Grant's ostensible plan to come to camp--a wonderful prank
I think I could keep at this all day; the more I reflect, the more I remember. So many fond recollections.
Best to all,
Mitch
