Jim,
I always thought this was one of the primary drivers for going vegan. I thought the fermentation process for the T-hunt was in 1980. I have some recollection of eating Chicken A La King my pioneer year, which was 1980. The biscuts sopping up that wonderful dish must have a direct correlation to corenary artery disease.
Hope all is well with you and your family in Cincinatti.
I am recently married, living in the suburbs of Chicago and work as a tax accountant for a private company in the city. I left public accounting (from one of the Big Five firms) just before the Enron scandal broke.
I do have many fond camping memories from my youth. Hiking from Shining Cloud Falls all the way to Trapp Falls (over Govenor's Peak) twice with you; once as a Ranger and once as a 14er. There was also a Marathon and a Canadian. I wouldn't trade those experiences for all the bulgar wheat in the world.
My favorite memory was during that first Porkies trip (1984). We spent two nights at Shining Cloud Falls and there was a bear in the vicinity. On day two you and I were returning to the campsite from the whirpool at the falls. The infamous Benji Milak was suppossed to be guarding the campsite from the bear. You decided we should start grawling to scare Benji. As we approached the campsite grawling at the top of our lungs, the bear was sitting on our tarp eating our food, while Benji was sleeping. He did have such a strong sense of responsibility.
I hope this made you laugh or at least smile.
