Wasn't the 1979 "Merc Murder" master Charles Bersen? I believe he got inspired do it because he was a crime reporter for the Memphis newspaper covering a murder trial. He wrote the entire T-Hunt before he even got to camp that year (thus, the idea of having Merc wear that silly pen around his neck all summer). It was one of the first "themed" T-Hunts.
