Having read (in the "if I were a camper..." listings) the recollections of All-Night Treasure Hunts, I thought it might be fun to begin a thread of memories from All-Nighter's past. After all, it is almost that time of the camp season . . .
I believe it was my Ranger year (1977), as dawn was approaching, we brought to the Rec Hall a five-gallon bucket. Upon opening the bucket, we discovered a batch of aged/fermented Chicken-A-La-King. (The stench stills haunts me to this day.) We had the joy of sorting through the carrots, chicken, potatoes, peas, sauce, etc. in search of our next clue.
One by one, we came across eight uncooked green peas, with the letters T-R-E-A-S-U-R-E carved into them.
So many of us were sickened by the odor, that for a long time, chicken-a-la-king was not served in the mess hall.
Looking forward to other’s favorite all-nighter stories . . . .
Jim
